The company often funds not so popular events, but ones showing the real identity of Bulgarians and their ancestors. Bul Ins is one of the few company that upholds cultural events and research works by historians, explorers and archaeologists. Bojidar Dimitrov receives honorary prize from Municipality Svishtov

09/2009

Minister Bojidar Dimitrov will receive the newly created prize by Municipality Svishtov for overall contribution to the protection of Bulgarian cultural and historical heritage. This will happen within the Festival of Ancient Heritage, at an official ceremony in the evening of September 19.

The long-time director of National Historical Museum and current minister without portfolio Bojidar Dimitrov was appointed unanimously for its first honorary winner. His nomination was chosen by a Public Committee, headed by the Mayor of Svishtov Stanislav Blagov.

The 2nd Festival of Ancient Heritage Eagle on the Danube, which will be held September 18 to 20 in Svishtov, is part of the European Heritage Days (EHD), a joint action of the Council of Europe and the European Commission. These days offer opportunities for the people of our continent to share their awareness for protecting and promoting their respective national heritage as part of the Common European heritage.

Although the EHD are held on the territory of the entire country, each year a region is chosen that attracts most of the events. Host town of the official opening of the European Heritage Days this year is Svishtov.

The prize is made for this special occasion and represents a Sestertius (ancient Roman coin) from Novae, inscribed in stone, coined in the times of Marcus Aurelius 165-166 AD, in Rome. The Sestertius depicts emperors Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus sitting on curule seats, on a platform. They are the protectors of wealth and plenty of Rome. Standing tall behind them is the Prefect. The fourth figure on the back is the Goddess of Victory, who gives alms on their behalf (or the Horn of Plenty) to a guy, standing in front of them, on the steps of the platform.

About Second Festival's Events

09/2009

Gothic artifacts will be displayed for the first time at an exhibition in Svishtov, Plamen Alexandrov announced today, deputy mayor of Municipality Svishtov. The exposition consists of undisplayed by now gothic objects found in Novae, including golden ones.

The exhibition will be arranged at the Archaeological museum. The event is part of the Festival of Ancient Heritage, which will be held September 18 to 20 in Svishtov. On the 18th, the first Festival day, another exhibition is going to be opened - Megaliths across the Bulgarian lands. This one is going to be held at the Art Gallery Nikolay Pavlovich. “This year it is no chance that the event is called Festival of Ancient Heritage, not Festival of Ancient Rome, because we present our entire ancient heritage. In fact, it’s this year’s special feature – we start from the Thracians, move to Romans and get to the Goths”, says Plamen Alexandrov.

The presence of Goths in Moesia and Thracia – is topic of the international conference, which is to be held also on the 18th. Twelve research papers will be presented during discussions.

September 19th will show the first military demonstrations and combats, reenactments planned to be at Town Stadium Academic and at ancient Novae. At the Stadium, next to the Roman military camp (Castrum), a Gothic settlement will be built by Polish reenactors who won a European project about restoration of their Gothic history. The group will show rituals, crafts, combat skills, and what the overall life of Goths used to be. The evening, at Kaleto Amphitheater, is reserved for Thracian rituals.

Third day of the Festival starts with Roman rituals, such as typical Roman wedding, at Vila Extra Muros, which is next to the Tourist Visitor Center Novae. Demonstration of Roman dishes and degustation will follow after that.

Official opening of the Festival is set for 18th in the evening, at the Monuments site. This is also the official opening of the European Heritage Days, Svishtov being this year’s host of the event.

09/2009

Historical reenactment is a type of performance, a role-playing game, whose purpose is to recreate certain aspects of a historical period or event. The term living history is the closest definition for similar festivals and events, for the attempts to bring a historical episode or epoch to the general public. Even the Romans staged recreations of famous battles within their amphitheaters as a form of public spectacle. In the Middle Ages tournaments often reenacted historical themes from Ancient Rome or elsewhere.

There are several reenactments in the style of “living history”, done in Bulgaria during the 1970s. The first reenactment event in Bulgaria that meets world standards for such a show came in 2008, when a group of enthusiasts from Council of Tourism-Svishtov and Municipality Svishtov organized the Festival of Ancient Rome Eagle on the Danube, participating 200 reenactors from 8 countries. For 4 days the public enjoyed various historical reproductions, cultural events, interactive activities, combining the reenactors with the spectators and festival guests.

ПIn 2009 the 2nd Festival develops into Festival of Ancient Heritage Eagle on the Danube, which will expose the times of Late Antiquity, when Roman legions and local Thracians met Dacians and aggressive Goths. Dates for Festival events are 18th to 20th of September 2009. Reenactors from Bulgaria, Italy, Poland,, Romania, Estonia, Russia, led by their desire for new emotions, will show the spirit of Antiquity on the scenes of the Roman legionary camp, the ancient town of Novae, and its successor – present-day Svishtov.
